Growing up, I could always look forward to summers in San Diego. My Yaya and grandfather lived in Carlsbad and even when I was in foster care my grandparents would still have us visit in the summer. My childhood was not an easy one, but I have very fond memories of visiting my grandparents and thank them for giving me a somewhat normal childhood.
Anyway, my mother and extent family still live in Southern California, so I make it appoint to take my kids down to visit. I love that my kids don’t need the amusement parks, or anything else all they want to do is go to the beach…
We visited a few beaches our week in Cali. We went to Carlsbad, Laguna, La Jolla, and Venice. While we do love all the beaches the boys favorite is Laguna; the waves tend to be a little rough, and they like that! Boys vs. waves. Their least favorite which I have to agree with was Venice; just not our scene.
I had to make a conscientious effort, this time, going to the beach. Ever since I was diagnosed with lupus. I typically flare up almost immediately no matter in the sun. I can have on a hat, sunglasses, etc. however, in California I didn’t seem to have the same problem. I did use a parasol whenever I was outdoors for shade. Also, used sunscreen, floppy hat, and sunglasses. A lot of the times I would hurry and remove the hat step into the sun snap a photo and then cover it back up 😉.
We always enjoy our time in South California some of our favorite places to go besides the beach are: Dave & Busters, Rockin Baja, Balboa Park, Rubies, and Roscoes Chicken and Waffles. Yep, my boys, are easy to please beach & food.
