I have just started my second semester of grad school at Westminster College! I am super excited about it. I will be documenting my journey towards a MAT & M.Ed, to see my work visit my portfolio site A Teacher’s Memoir. Not bad for been through things such as foster kid/teen mom. Sometimes growing up in the system, facing hardship can be extremely motivating. However, I do not identify myself as the foster kid or a teen mom. I know I am much more than that. You can not put me in a box!
Everyone has obstacles in their lives, and they also have the choice whether to submit to or to overcome. I think I’ve done fairly well coming from a single parent home of six kids, drug addicted mother, foster kid, then becoming a teen mom myself, and later a divorced single mom.Still, resilience is something I believe was built in growing up in the system and facing hardship. I’ve always been extremely motivated not to become a statistic. To this day, I do not identify myself as the poor foster kid/ teen mom. I know I am much more than labels. You can not put me in a box!
I love the quote:
“I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.” -C.G. Jung
I am a mother, sister, daughter, and some call me friend….
